Microsoft Excel is software Developed by Microsoft which allows user to organise, calculate an format data with the help of various formulas using spreadsheet system.It is a part MS-Office suit and is compatible with other applications of MS-Office.With the Evolution of computers and technology Microsoft also evolved its products including ms excel for security, ease of doing things for the sake of user.Lets talk about the journey of ms excel, it’s evolution and advantages and disadvantages of each versions.
1) Microsoft XLSX File
The default version of ms-excel file used these days.It is more secured than the previous versions of excel and has the maximum numbers of row and columns.It came after 2007 and replaces the old Xls file type.
a) The default file format and because of that the best known and widest spread file type.
b) Can use up to 2^20 (1048576) rows and 2^14 (=16384) columns.
c) Uses the open file format and is in general accessible with other applications.
d) Secure because it doesn’t save VBA macros.
e) Can use and save all the functions available in Excel.
a) Needs more disk space than other file formats .
b) Cannot be opened with versions before ms excel 2003.
It was the default excel file extension before excel 2007.Replaced by XLSX in 2007.It is not safe as it’s password can be cracked easily but still used by many.
a) Can be opened with version before excel 2007.

b)Can’t use all newer Excel functions, e.g. formulas or functionality
d)Can only use up to 65,536 (2^16) rows and 256 (2^8) rows.
